1. Aristotle

Aristotle was a great philosopher who was also the first to have written systems. These systems ought to understand and criticize anything, ranging from politics, logic, literature, ethics and science.


2. Plato

Plato established the first school of higher education in the Western world, known as the Academy of Athens. Almost every Western philosophy can be associated with Plato, a student of Socrates.


3. Rene Descartes

4. Paul of Tarsus

5. Thomas Aquinas

Thomas Aquinas was famous for proving that God exists. He argued that the universe itself was created by a supreme being. This was supported by the fact that everything in existence has a beginning and an end.


6. Zeno of Citium

Zeno founded the school of Stoicism. Stoicism centers on the idea that everything that is happening to us, or would make us suffer, is because of the error in our judgment. Therefore, we must always have total control over our emotions.


7. Avicenna

Avicenna lived in the Persian Empire. Aside from being a philosopher, he was regarded as the best preeminent physician in the world during his time. His two famous works are The Canon of Medicine and The Book of Healing.


8. Confucius

Confucius is the most important philosopher in the Eastern history. Many believed that the Greek founded democracy, but Confucius had it written a long time before the Greek ever found out about it. In his Analects, Confucius said, “the best government is one that rules through ‘rites’ and the people’s natural morality, rather than by using bribery and coercion”.
