On June 20, 2017, Skytrax staged the 2017 World Airline Awards at the Paris Air Show held at the fabulous Air and Space Museum. The event was attended by bosses from airlines around the world and the largest Skytrax Awards event ever. Below is the list of the awardees.
10. Garuda Indonesia
Garuda Indonesia, the Indonesian flag carrier, has taken a dramatic turnaround after the carrier has undertaken extensive fleet renewal, and service-improvement measures. These measures have regained the trust of both fliers and safety regulators.
The economy section now boats of comfortable seats and a wide selection of Southeast Asian cuisine. In terms of services, Garuda’s flight attendants took home the award this year for the World’s Best Cabin Crew.
9. Hainan Airlines
Hainan is the only Chinese airline to hold the coveted Skytrax five-star rating. Founded in 1993, the airline operates 160 Boeing and Airbus jets, and is expanding rapidly in Asia, Europe, and Australia. According to reviewers of Skytrax, the airline has attentive service and quality business class accommodations.
8. Etihad Airways
Etihad Airways is the flag carrier of the United Arab Emirates. Based in Abu Dhabi, its Airbus and Boeing fleet travel to about 100 destinations. The airline is known for its trademark Residence flying apartments as well as its plush first-class and business-class suites.
Lufthansa, the German national airline, was able to maintain its service and overall quality due to significant budget cuts and overhauling its labor issues. Its long-haul service for its fleets remains exceptional. It comes close to the top of the list by receiving solid scores across the board.
6. EVA Air
Founded in 1989, Taiwan’s EVA Air (pronounced ee-vee-ay) is based in Taipei. The carrier continues to grow over the past years and now operates a large fleet of Airbus and Boeing-wide body jets. It is the pioneer of the “premium economy” cabin. In 2016, it took home the prize for the World’s Best Transpacific Airline.
5. Cathay Pacific Airways
Cathay Pacific managed to retain its place as the highest-ranked carrier from the Pacific rim. Based in Hong Kong, its fleet of long-range Boeing 777-300ER jets and its strategy of offering high frequency flights has made this airline of the finest flying experiences in Asia. Skytrax reviewers gave the airline high marks for seat comfort, service quality, and in-flight entertainment.
4. Emirates Air
Emirates Air has remained in Skytrax’s list of world premier long-haul carriers. The carrier boasts of the world’s largest fleet of Airbus A380 superjumbos and Boeing 777 wide-body jets. Its state-of-the-art in-flight entertainment remains one of its strongest points. The airline operates exclusively through its palatial hub at Dubai International Airport.
3. ANA All Nippon Airways
Japan’s largest international carrier, All Nippon Airways is home to one of the world’s largest fleets of Boeing 787 Dreamliners. The airline continues to receive good scores for cleanliness, service, and safety. One of the features in many of its planes is the slide-forward-style reclining seats that allows for more privacy, as well as power and USB outlets even in economy. In 2016, ANA also won the award for World’s Best Airport Services and Best Airline Staff Service in Asia.
2. Singapore Airlines
Skytrax has voted Singapore Airlines for its standout service which makes for pleasant journey as well as excellent entertainment options, and very attentive attendants. The airline’s home base at Changi International Airport has been voted at one of the finest facilities in the world.

Qatar Airways, the Doha-Based airline regained its spot as the world’s best airline after losing it the previous year.
